Using the four components of Lamberts pie as an overaching framework, this talk will look at the mechanisms of change. We will explore how academic knowledge can be incorporated into practice to improve outcomes and minimise client attrition. We will explore the stages of change and the appropriate therapeutic techniques for each stage, the debunking of the stage model of grief and how this impacts treatment, and how an understanding of operant conditioning can help clients achieve goals. We will discuss some of the extratherapeutic resources available for clients, how psychoeducation can install hope and how and why client collaboration is the gold standard of treatment.
This talk is especially helpful to students and newly trained counsellors.
